Cherry Pie Porter released in support of Christmas charities, kick starts barrel-ageing program

We're stoked to announce we've just released a Christmas Cherry Pie Porter brewed in collaboration with Fyshwick’s Three Mills Bakery and will donate $1 from every beer sold to children’s charity.

Our head brewer wade recons it is the first in the world to have been brewed with real, whole cherry pies thrown into the mash

The limited release beer will be available only at our Fyshwick Tap Room with proceeds from every glass of the Christmas beer sold in December going to local children’s charities. To get the ball rolling Three Mills Bakery has donated 50 cherry pies to accompany the first 50 beers sold.

In addition to the whole cherry pies, the Porter is made with chocolate and crystal malts, naked golden oats, cinnamon and East Kent Goldings and Fuggles hops. Served cold, it’s the perfect brew for the holiday season. It will be available until stock runs out.

In an exciting move, this beer has also kicked off our first ever barrel ageing program using wine barrels from local wineries Lark Hill and Wiley Trout. The 2017 Porter will be aged in Shiraz Oak Casks for 12 months and released next Christmas.

Continuing in the spirit of giving this Christmas, Capital Brewing Co today unveiled a giving tree in the brewery in association with Barnardos Australia.

We’re encouraging you guys to bring in gifts and non-perishable food for children of all ages with no families this Christmas. We have gift tags with the name and age of Canberra kids which you can add to your present and put under the tree.

If you’re stuck for gift ideas Barnardos suggest educational toys, picture books, sporting equipment, and gift vouchers for music, clothing stores, and movie cinemas all prove popular.

Donations will be accepted until Friday 22 December.

And in another beautiful twist, several companies joining us for our Christmas Night Markets next Wednesday 6 December are also getting into the giving spirit, infusing their products with the Cherry Pie Porter and donating proceeds to charity. Doughnut Department are making a special batch of Cherry Pie Porter doughnuts and Hungry Brown Cow will make Cherry Pie Porter cookie sandwiches!
